Master Formation Pools and Spas – Water Features

Water-Features: If you are planning waterfalls and rockscapes (now more affordable than ever) as part of your design, the time to have them installed is just after gunite is finished. This way, they are in place before the decking crew begins work and the decking can be poured right up against the rocks. Otherwise, if the decking gets poured first, your water-features may end up with a sloppy tacked-on appearance, rather than blending in naturally.

You want to make sure that your groundwork is prepared properly to hold the weight of your natural rock waterfall. Remember, waterfalls are measured in Tons (2,000 lbs. per ton). Depending on the total size of your rock waterfall, you can go from one ton to whatever you can imagine. We will show you photos of natural rock waterfalls or weeping walls and even take you to places where you can see our Master Formation Pools and Spas rockscape waterfalls for yourself before deciding. This will give you great ideas for creating your own waterfalls or rock gardens. At this point, your pool is almost completed. After all, you are almost done now; you don't want any unpleasant surprises to hold things up at this point.

Pool Decking: Not only will pool decking compliment the look of your pool, it is often used more than the pool itself. So give some thought to how you will be using your pool deck. Will you want space for lounge chairs for tanning and relaxing? Do you have enough space for patio furniture, or maybe even room enough for a BBQ area? Try to look ahead and imagine how you will put it to use. Are you big into entertaining? You may want to add some extra square footage, maybe even some room for a fireplace!

You have a wide range of choices for pool deck finishes, all the way from "cost-effective" to "money is no object." There is a large variety of designs, textures, and colors you can use to tailor the deck to your backyard environment. There are several designer concrete companies that are able to create amazingly realistic simulations of flagstone, brickwork, or almost any surface you can imagine.

However, if cost is less an issue to you than is style, you can always use real flagstone, slate, or a non-skid tile surface to finish your deck. The cost of "natural" finishes can be extremely high, yet the look may well be worth it to you.
Tile & Coping: These days, with dozens -- even hundreds -- of designs, colors and textures from which to choose you can easily be overwhelmed. You want to choose a tile that compliments your pool. Some tiles might look good in a sample or catalog, yet they may be too busy on your pool once they are installed. Ask to see a photo or actual pool with the completed tile installation. After all, you don't want to end up with a 70's cobalt blue and emerald green mosaic unless that is really your thing.

It is very important that you make your tile and coping choices out in the natural sunlight of your backyard. Many tiles chosen inside a home under normal house lighting have a different look in natural sunlight.

It seems like a little thing, but, in reality, it is a major focal point of your pool - the proper choice of pool tile and coping can really tie things together nicely. You want your tile to be a perfect detail, whether subtle or outstanding, NOT a wince-inducing garish eyesore. But the choices of pool tile are many. Coping professionally set in place and leveled around the perimeter of your pool, with tile carefully placed and leveled to the inside of your pool, creates a beautifully finished look that will make you proud.
